3 Tips to Help Choose the Right Floor Color
While seasoned interior decorators and architects alike try hard to master the art of color matching in order to keep perfect balance and harmony, homeowners struggle to make right choices when it comes to choose flooring colors. So, don’t feel bad if, when you are shopping for the perfect flooring, you are stuck because of the different color options. To help out, we’ve put together a few tips to help you choose the right floor color.
1. Size matters: consider the room size
The color of your floor will always have a major impact on the feeling of space you get in a room regardless of how big or small the room actually is. If the room is large and big enough, you might use dark tones such as walnut. Dark tones tend to make large rooms seem smaller, what makes them a lot cozier.
On the other hand, if the room is small and looks cramped, using lighter or natural floor colors such as beiges can really open up the room.
2. Room atmosphere: the effect of colors
The colors you choose for your floor and walls will all have a huge impact on the atmosphere in a room. Light colors will give the room a sunnier, happier feel. For examples, shades of yellow are associated with optimism and fun, while white and light beige will give the room a sense of openness and cleanliness.
Grey color will bring a sense of peaceful and cool while brown colors will have a very natural and rustic feel. On the other hand, black stands for luxury and class. A black floor also is known to give a room a powerful and dramatic edge, full of contrast.
3. The bigger picture: Imagine the floor color with your desired decoration
This is something that most homeowners tend to forget when remodeling their homes. Don’t choose your floor color based on an empty room! Take a moment to make sure that flooring matches the broader style and feel you want to give your interior.
If you have special custom furniture that you want to take center stage, then go for natural floor colors. If you are looking for a country-style décor, go for browns.
As an extra tip, don’t underestimate the perception of colors with different light when buying your floor. Sampling a floor sample color at night, in artificial light, will give you a very different impression than during mid-afternoon in the natural sunlight. Therefore, make sure to see all samples at different times of the day, with different lighting.
